Alan C. Shafner was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from the University of Colorado with Distinction in 1975 and received his law degree from The Houston College of Law, Houston, Texas in 1978. After graduating from law school, Alan was a trial attorney for the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in Golden, Colorado from 1979 through June 1983. During this time, Alan was the lead prosecutor on several high-profile felony cases, including murder and sexual assault cases.

In 1983, Alan joined the law firm of Fogel, Keating and Wagner as an associate, and later became a named partner. After 28 successful years, Alan opened his own personal injury law firm. In 2011, The Law Offices of Alan C. Shafner was formed, serving a variety of personal injury litigation cases.

Alan has consistently received an “AV” rating from the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating given by the publication, which means he meets a very high criteria of general ethical standards. This peer review rating signifies that a lawyer has reached the pinnacle of professional excellence and is recognized for the highest levels of skills and integrity. Because of Alan’s accomplishments as a trial attorney, in 1998 he was selected for inclusion into The American Board of Trial Advocates. In 2010, Alan was honored by being asked to join the Ethics Committee of the Colorado Bar Association and served as a committee member in 2010 and 2011.

Active within the legal community, Alan is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Denver Bar Association, and the Colorado Bar Association. He has served as a guest lecturer for a variety of continuing legal education programs and seminars.

Alan is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, The United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, the United States District Court for Colorado, the Colorado Supreme Court, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and all Colorado state courts.

Alan has been selected for membership into The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Trial Lawyers. Membership into The National Trial Lawyers is by invitation only and is extended to those premier trial attorneys who exemplify superior qualifications, trial results and leadership in their respective state.

Alan has recovered millions of dollars for his clients through settlement and trial and has handled several high-profile cases including the wrongful death case against United Bank and Norwest Bank of Denver where his client was murdered by a bank robber who executed the security guards and the landmark case of Groh vs. Westin Hotel which was recently affirmed by the Colorado Supreme Court which involved the negligent eviction of his client from the hotel while she was an intoxicated guest.

Alan is active in community service and is presently the honorary Judge Advocate General for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Troop 344.
