Obie began his legal career as a litigation attorney with Ball, Kirk and Holm, one of the premier personal injury firms in the State of Iowa. During that time, he tried cases in both federal and state court and also enjoyed the opportunity to brief and argue cases on appeal to both the Iowa Court of Appeals and the Iowa Supreme Court.

During his time as a litigation attorney in Iowa, Obie lectured and presented to members of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association on various topics, including workers’ compensation case management, witness preparation, and handling biomechanical experts. He also taught paralegal studies courses as an adjunct instructor in both Iowa and Arizona from 2002 to 2006.
