Firm Summary
I am a third generation attorney, following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather—Judge John P. Colton, Sr. and Judge John P. Colton, Jr., retired. I received my J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1996, spending one year of study at Golden Gate University School of Law. I obtained a B.A. in Psychology from University of California at Davis. I am also licensed to practice law in Tennessee, where I was born and raised.
I’ve always believed that I was somehow born to work with a focus on employment and civil rights and obligations as my mother was pregnant with me, in Memphis, Tennessee, when Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot and killed. I am highly passionate about enforcing and protecting the rights of both employees and employers. I often find that counseling on these issues goes a long way towards ensuring that employees are respected in the workplace, and that employers are able to conduct business and keep things moving. However, when litigation is necessary, I aggressively seek a final resolution for my clients.
I believe in answering my own phone. I strategically take on fewer cases so that sufficient resources are available to match up favorably against large firms. I am convinced that given the challenges inherent in bringing a successful resolution, it is imperative that I collaborate closely with my clients from the outset of a case or issue. I devote extensive time to meeting with my clients to ensure I am armed with as much information as possible, avoiding or even eliminating mistakes or miscommunications. I take my obligation seriously to return client phone calls promptly, and I expect the same diligence from clients.
