Firm Summary
Since starting his own firm, Mr. Morris has focused his efforts in two distinct areas: corporate litigation and representing plaintiffs in civil rights cases. Having defended police officers in misconduct claims for the City of San Diego, Mr. Morris developed an expertise in §1983 litigation and, over the last 12 years, he has been using that expertise in his representation of the victims of police misconduct and custodial malfeasance. His verdicts and settlements have included multi-million dollar awards by federal juries on claims involving the failure to provide adequate medical attention, including the failure to provide adequate suicide prevention efforts, illegal uses of force against inmates, and the failure to protect inmates from others.
Mr. Morris chose to focus on this area of the law because of his passion for protecting the rights guaranteed by the constitution and his love of trial work. Knowing that civil rights cases often end up being tried before a jury, Mr. Morris knew that his representation of victims of law enforcement misconduct would enable him to sharpen and refine his trial skills through actual trial work. In turn, Mr. Morris has used these trial skills in the zealous representation of his corporate clients.
Mr. Morris has successfully represented some of San Diego’s biggest companies in corporate litigation against large, multi-national, law firms; and done so at a fraction of the cost of the big firms. These cases have run the gambit of corporate disputes– including founder’s rights, the misappropriation of trade secrets and confidential information, shareholder’s disputes, and disputes with venture capital investment. In one recent case, Mr. Morris represented a San Diego based tech company against a $50M claim being prosecuted by Baker and Hostetler’s New York office. At trial, Mr. Morris and his associate, Jacob Gillick, were opposed by a team of high-priced lawyers and paralegals. After a 16 day trial, a verdict was entered in favor of Mr. Morris’s client—a verdict that rejected each and every claim. While other firms may claim trial experience, Mr. Morris and his team actually go to trial. If you are looking for a law firm to litigate against the big firms for a fraction of the cost, look no further than Morris Law Firm.
