Alan J. Leahy is a former Partner at the law firms of Covington & Crowe LLP and Tomlinson, Prince, Cullen & Leahy LLP. His primary area of practice is employment law and related litigation. Additionally, he has extensive experience in civil and business litigation. He also has previously served as the Deputy City Attormey for the City of Hesperia. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Leahy served as a judicial extern at the United States Bankruptcy Court in San Jose. He also studied international and comparative law at Magdalen College in Oxford, England.
Mr. Leahy has extensive experience in both the prosecution and defense of a wide variety of general civil matters for private sector clients. He has represented numerous employers and management in employment lawsuits as well as with respect to administrative complaints before the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), and the federal Equal Employment and Opportunities Commission (EEOC) and Department of Labor (DOL). He has also represented the public sector in response to allegations before the Department on Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Mr. Leahy has conducted AB 1825 sexual harassment compliance training seminars for employers, including for the City of Ontario. Mr. Leahy’s specialty in employment law includes providing preventative advice to employers on various human resource and employee personnel issues for the purpose of litigation avoidance. Mr. Leahy also conducts and oversees employer investigations into allegations of workplace harassment, discrimination and retaliation.
Mr. Leahy’s nearly twenty years of litigation experience has emphasized on working with both the public and private sector in providing advice and guidance on a wide variety of personnel issues. His experience also includes public entity defense involving alleged personal injury, inverse condemnation, assessments, and other tort and contractual issues. Mr. Leahy has an outstanding record of success for his clients whether through litigation or negotiations. Mr. Leahy became a member of the State Bar of California in 1994. He has been a member of the American Bar Association, as well as the Riverside and Western San Bernardino County Bar Associations. He was a member of the Leo Deegan Inn of Court from 1997 through 2004.
In his spare time, Mr. Leahy manages and coaches his two sons in competitive junior tennis. Both sons have been ranked as high as within the top 30 players in Southern California for their respective age divisions. Mr. Leahy also has hosted the weekly Prince Leahy Show on KCAA 1050 AM radio. He has been married to his wife, Luz, a local school teacher, for approximately 20 years.
Mr. Leahy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science-International Relations from the Univeristy of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1990. At UCLA he also received an emphasis in Business Administration. He received his Juris Doctorate (JD) from Santa Clara University in 1994.
