Firm Summary
Barry S. Kantrowitz, Esq. first worked for KGG (which was Kantrowitz & Goldhamer at the time,) as a high school student. The law firm of KGG began as a family business, and Barry takes that legacy very seriously. As the Managing Partner, Barry now handles the day-to-day oversight of non-matrimonial litigation matters for the firm, trying civil, negligence, criminal and corporate cases. Most of his time is dedicated to preparing and trying cases relating to personal injury, professional malpractice and corporate and complex commercial disputes. Barry has an “AV Preeminent” peer review rating from Martindale Hubbell with a 5.0, the highest possible score. He has also been selected as “Super Lawyer” in New York by Superlawyers.com every year since 2010. He has lectured to college students at Brandeis and Boston Universities, has taught classes to train future lawyers, and has lectured to lawyers at Continuing Legal Education programs.
Barry received his undergraduate degree from Harpur College, SUNY Binghamton. During his studies at Boston University School of Law, he received honors as an Edward Hennessy Scholar and a Paul J. Liacos Scholar. He graduated cum laude. Barry is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of New Jersey, New York and Florida, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Barry Kantrowitz is a member of the New York State and New Jersey State Trial Lawyers Associations, and the State Bar Associations of New York, New Jersey and Florida.
Within just a few years of joining the firm, Barry proved himself to be an outstanding trial lawyer. In 1988, he secured a $9,200,000 jury verdict in the aftermath of the tragic deaths of two teens resulting from a construction site accident. At the time, it made history as the largest verdict of its kind in Rockland County. In addition to representing individual claimants, Barry has represented numerous large corporate clients in complex litigation. Barry successfully defended Tyco International in a $40,000,000 litigated claim against a fire suppression subsidiary. Barry has handled numerous business and intra-family disputes involving claims of more than ten million dollars.
Both large and small companies have looked to Barry for representation in complex matters. Two of Barry’s reported trials resulted in favorable verdicts and settlements for individual clients who took on formidable corporate defendants. In Vesco vs. North Star Steel, Barry secured a judgment after trial in Federal Court surpassing $1,500,000 against a subsidiary of Cargill Incorporated, one of the largest privately held companies in the world. In Boyajian vs. C&R Realty, Barry tried a case to judgment in New Jersey for a minority shareholder who received an award in excess of $600,000.00 based on oppressive conduct by the majority. In 2008, Barry obtained a jury verdict in excess of $1,000,000 for a client injured in a slip and fall case. In 2011, Barry tried a slip and fall case in Rockland County in which he achieved a jury verdict in excess of $800,000 even though no money was offered by the insurance company prior to trial. The happy client collected the verdict with interest after Barry successfully neutralized the defendant’s appeal. More of Barry’s notable personal injury settlements and recoveries are listed in the “Personal Injury Recoveries” section of this site.
