Benjamin Lawson received his Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. He spent the early part of his legal career with the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office handling cases ranging DUIs to serious felony trials for crimes like bank robbery and aggravated battery. In 2012 he entered private practice and in 2014 he partnered with Patrick O’Brien to form Lawson & O’Brien, P.C. He now focuses his practice on criminal defense, DUIs, personal injury cases, civil lawsuits, and family law cases. In 2019 Benjamin completed a 40-hour training course and became a licensed mediator. Additionally, Benjamin has written two articles for the Illinois Bar Journal, and he represents Kankakee County to the Illinois State Bar Association.

Benjamin received his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2009.

He studied Psychology and Business Administration at the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006.

He is a graduate of Valparaiso High School.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & INTERESTS

Benjamin enjoys volunteering his time organizing and judging mock trial competitions for law students and high school students. In 2009 he founded Indiana University’s annual internal mock trial competition, and in 2018 he helped form the Kankakee County Mock Trial Invitational. He has coached teams for the Illinois State Bar Association’s annual competition each year for the past two years. Benjamin is an avid racquetball and pickleball player. He has a wife who is French and two children who are French-American. They take regular trips to visit his wife’s family in Normandy.
