Brian R. Cunha has worn many hats throughout his career. No matter his role, his life’s theme, coming from a working-class home, is serving as a plaintiff’s lawyer for victims against insurance companies.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Cunha graduated from Lexington High School. He was accepted at Boston College and while there played hockey for the school’s nationally respected hockey team, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. After graduation, Mr. Cunha’s service continued as a high school math teacher in Arlington, Massachusetts, which he continued while attending the Boston College MBA program.

In the fall of 1974 Mr. Cunha was accepted to Suffolk Law School and at the same time began teaching at Newbury College in Boston as the department chairman of the Marketing Department, which he continued until 1977. Mr. Cunha graduated from law school in 1976 and gained admission to the bar in 1977. He initially worked in a two-man partnership in Fall River Massachusetts, handling both criminal and civil cases until 1986 when he started his own practice with offices in Fall River, New Bedford and East Providence.

For the past 45 years Attorney Cunha has established himself as a distinguished and highly regarded personal injury trial attorney and recognized authority on personal injury law. Attorney Cunha’s results speak for themselves, as he has settled or won cases worth in excess of 200 Million Dollars for thousands of Plaintiffs from Rhode Island and Massachusetts and as far as North Carolina, in such cases as class actions against the manufacturers of Vioxx, Medtronic Pacemakers, Baycol, Phen-fen and the Dalkon Shield.

He has represented the families and victims in such landmark litigation as the R.I. Station Fire case and the MTBE Drinking Water Litigation in Pascoag, Rhode Island in which Attorney Cunha, together with the New York law firm, Napoli-Bern, represented the citizens of Pascoag against Exxon Mobil for the contamination of their water supply.

Attorney Cunha has also sued and won thousands of other cases, ranging from automobile accidents in Providence and Fall River to tornado cases in North Carolina, to dozens of salmonella sub shop poisoning cases in Somerset Massachusetts to elevator death cases in Boston, Massachusetts

Attorney Cunha is one of the few lawyers who have been recognized in Lawyers Weekly’s annual survey of top verdicts and settlements for both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

As a result, Mr. Cunha regularly appears on the channel 12 morning show, “Legal Logic”, to give his opinions on current legal issues and is often featured in the national press for his successful advocacy on behalf of clients. In recent years, he has also contributed lengthy articles to major newspapers on protecting the rights of injured persons. He has participated in a number of televised debates including one with the president of the Rhode Island Medical Society to challenge attempts to limit damage awards to injured parties.

Mr. Cunha is a proven personal injury trial attorney winner and maintains membership in the Rhode Island Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, Boston Bar Association and is on the Board of Governors of the Rhode Island Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a long-term board member of the Rhode Island Association for Justice. Attorney Cunha actively advances the interests of plaintiffs in legislation relating to personal injury law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Mr. Cunha, is a former member of the board of directors of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Brain Injury Foundation, is a fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, an honor extended to two percent of trial attorneys. For nearly 25 years, he has provided annual college scholarship awards for deserving high school students in Fall River and East Providence that have totaled more than $100,000.

He has also generously donated an original Felix de Weldon Iwo Jima Memorial statue to the City of Fall River. The Bronze Statue was erected and dedicated in 2006 and now stands overlooking the Taunton River in Bicentennial Park in Fall River, Massachusetts.
