Dan’s childhood days were spent in agricultural school (Future Farmers of America, FFA) on the East coast. When his family moved to San Diego he entered the field of commercial construction as a Journeyman Carpenter. After finishing a B.A. at San Diego State University, he accepted the position of Assistant Registrar and Admissions Officer at the University of California San Diego. He later accepted the position of Director of Admissions at California Western to Assistant Director of Special Units U.S. Department of State in Washington D.C.

He was recruited when he spent a year after which he graduated from Northrop University School of Law with a Doctorate in 1981. He joined the firm of Leach, Biesty, & McGreevy here in Los Angeles and some 3 years later he became a partner – transforming the firm into Biesty, Nelson, McCool & Garrety, an Insurance Defense firm. It was here he acquired extensive knowledge of the Personal Injury practice defending as many as 25 major Insurance companies. Dan was admitted to the California State Bar in 1990, California State Court in 1990, and U.S. District Court in 1991.

He has been Commissioner for the State Bar of California. He has also been a member of the California Trial Lawyers Association since the mid-1990s as well as the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association and the Los Angeles County Bar.
