David was born in Dothan, Alabama and raised in Hartford, Alabama.  After graduating from Geneva County High School in 1986, he attended Enterprise State Junior College before transferring to Auburn University.  Dave received a scholarship from the Auburn Wiregrass Alumni Association.  He graduated with a Pre-law Political Science degree with High Honor in 1988.  While at Auburn he was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi; Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honor Society).  After leaving Auburn, he attended the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University on a full tuition scholarship.  While at Cumberland he was a Member Cumberland Law Review; and had the highest score in his Conflicts of Law class.  Since being admitted to the Bar he has had a varied practice in Southeast Alabama.  He has served as a municipal court prosecutor for two towns, a municipal court judge for two, and served as attorney for two other municipalities.  After serving as a full time assistant District Attorney for Dale and Geneva Counties, he took a part time assistant District Attorney position and reopened his private practice.  Dave is currently Ashford, Alabama’s municipal court judge.

Dave lives in Hartford with Kim, his wife of twenty-four years.  He has three children.  Amanda graduated from Geneva County High in 2012 and obtained a teaching degree from the Dothan branch of Troy University.  Amanda marched in the band for six years and now serves as a volunteer assistant band director.  Michelle graduated from Geneva County High in 2017 and will be attending Enterprise State Community College.  Michelle also marched for six years.  Sara will be a junior at Geneva County High and plays the clarinet in the marching band.  During football season, you will find Dave every Friday night in the stands watching his daughter perform and pulling for the Geneva County Bulldogs.  He covers the football games for the local paper.  In addition to following the Bulldogs, Dave enjoys video games and tinkering with his 1955 Studebaker Commander and 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce.

Dave and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church of Hartford where he has held many leadership positions including Lay leader and chair of the Administrative Council.  He is a Certified Lay Speaker and frequently speaks at churches in the area.
