In 1982, Fernando D. Vargas graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois where he majored in Political Science and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.  Fernando Vargas attended McGeorge School of Law, at the University of the Pacific and distinguished himself amongst his law school peers by earning a position on the International Moot Court Competition Team.  He earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 1986 and obtained his license to practice law in 1987.

Mr. Vargas began his law career in 1987 with a private and very prominent defense firm in Los Angeles, which had satellite offices in San Francisco, Santa Ana, and Riverside.  Attorney Vargas worked out of the office based in Los Angeles.  The firm handled defense matters on behalf of insurance companies in medical malpractice claims, government tort liability claims, and personal injury accidents involving automobiles, motorcycles, semi-trucks, buses, bicycles, pedestrians, premises, slip and falls, trip and falls, and death.

While at the defense firm, Mr. Vargas litigated cases with great success.  In his last defense trial, Mr. Vargas defended a doctor with a specialty in oncology that was accused of failing to diagnose a cancerous mass in the patient’s breast which resulted in the cancer spreading and ultimately in the patient’s death.  The surviving husband and children sued for medical negligence and wrongful death.

After a very emotional and well fought battle, Mr. Vargas won the trial on behalf of the doctor.  Following this defense victory, attorney Vargas left the defense side of the legal practice and began to represent clients who suffered injuries in accidents.  Instead of working for the insurance companies by defending the party responsible for causing the accident, Mr. Vargas began fighting the insurance companies in lawsuits filed against the party responsible for causing the accident.
