Firm Summary

Jacob Shapiro grew up with a disabled father and attributes his interest in helping injured people to his upbringing. After graduating as a valedictorian from Cupertino High School, Mr. Shapiro attended UC Berkeley where he was a Regent Scholar, and Alumni Scholar and finished with High Honors majoring in Political Science. He went on to graduate summa cum laude from Santa Clara Law School obtaining American Jurisprudence Awards for being at the top of his class in Torts, the field in which he practices exclusively, and Business Organizations. Mr. Shapiro was also the Best Oral Advocate in the final round of Moot Court.

Since 1996, Mr. Shapiro has worked in the area of plaintiff’s personal injury providing advice, legal services, and his expertise to thousands of individuals. This includes many trials both as solo trial counsel and as part of a trial team. Mr. Shapiro worked as an attorney for Blackman Legal Group, a firm specializing in personal injury, for 17 years before starting his own practice. While Mr. Shapiro has handled a number of six and seven-figure cases resulting from either settlement or trial he prides himself on giving personal attention to each and every client regardless of the size of their case. He is licensed to practice in both state and federal courts throughout California. Mr. Shapiro is published in the area of elevator litigation in the American Association of Justice’s October 2010 issue of Trial and is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California. Mr. Shapiro’s qualifications also extend to the California Court of Appeals, where he won a landmark decision confirming the non-delegable duty of commercial property owners and their full liability for injuries caused by defective elevators.

Unique aspects of Mr. Shapiro’s personal injury practice include his use of analytics to determine case values and help make economic decisions during the handling of litigation as well as using settlement procedures to not only maximize clients’ net recoveries but to give them the best possible chance of prevailing at trial. While real-life emotional decisions are not made on paper, as a fiduciary Mr. Shapiro understands it is paramount to always act in a client’s best interests.
