In 1981, John Boren co-founded the firm that would become Boren, Oliver & Coffey, LLP after holding the rank of Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Morgan County and then spending two years in solo private practice.
John has never been afraid to tackle big cases. He litigated and resolved a lawsuit against Walmart and Siemens involving an arc flash explosion, successfully brought suit against Domino’s Pizza for their 30-minute delivery policy that resulted in significant injuries to his client, and successfully pursued a products liability case against Black and Decker and General Motors.

He has access to 15-20 physicians where he can ask questions and seek medical advice pertaining to the case. John’s last two cases involved a shaken baby case where they both resulted in a not guilty verdict.
In addition to John’s incredible career as a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney, he is also one of the most sought-after criminal defense attorneys in Indiana. John has had over 100 jury trials and has represented clients throughout Indiana charged with murder, reckless homicide, kidnapping, rape, escape from jail, child molestation, drug dealing, and almost every misdemeanor imaginable. John is one of the few attorneys in Indiana permitted to try death penalty cases. In addition, John has represented his clients involving white-collar crime at the federal level as well.
After spending four years in Germany as a first lieutenant in the United States Army, John enrolled in the Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis graduating in 1977. He was the initial Board President of the Morgan County YMCA, and he loves to volunteer both through local organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity as well as through his pro bono legal work. He’s a pilot, loves to hunt and fish, and he is a certified workout fanatic who loves to run and lift weights.
John has lectured on numerous occasions for the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Foundation (ICLEF) and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the Indiana Trial lawyers Association (ITLA ) College of Fellows, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
