We’ve all seen the ads. Billboards with the guy in the dark suit and red tie making a fist or pointing his finger. The lawyer promising to be “Aggressive.” Or that he will “Fight for You.” A “98% success rate.”

Truth be told, no lawyer wins 98% of their cases. If a lawyer claims to, that lawyer never goes to court.  That lawyer always settles. And when you always settle, you settle for less and sell clients short in the process. The other side knows which lawyers go to court and fight for clients. And they also know which ones don’t.

My name is John-Paul Serrao and I love being an attorney.  My approach to handling cases finds inspiration from a Texas pitmaster who once said, “you can do things one of two ways – you can do things quick or you can take your time and do things right.”  While his comments were about cooking the best barbeque, I feel it’s equally applicable to representing clients well.

As a trial lawyer, I don’t mind the long hours that come with this job and I obsess over details that others might overlook. If you’re looking for flashy promises, look elsewhere.  But if you’ve got a case worth fighting and need a lawyer who isn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves and fight, I’m your guy.

When I have free time, I’m usually outside at the BBQ or out on the floor dancing a Foxtrot or Tango.  Growing up in Toronto, I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Bills and try to catch a road game whenever they’re out this way.  With some good teams lately, hopes are high that the years of misery and championship droughts end soon.

Helping the less fortunate is rewarding and I enjoy giving back to the community through a variety of pro bono projects. Charitable organizations at the top of my list are the American Diabetes Association and Special Olympics.   Questions? Get in touch and let’s chat.
