Firm Summary
I am a Partner, senior shareholder and Trial lawyer at Sommers Schwartz, P.C. I have resolved multiple injury claims in the multi-million dollar award range. My client received one of the largest 7-digit medical negligence case awards in Macomb County Circuit Court in 2008 and such successes continued in 2009 through now, 2017. I fortunately have been able to secure case resolutions of similar value for persons stricken with permanent life changing injuries with great frequency. However, all of my clients, no matter the ultimate value of the claim, get personal, professional and compassionate representation from the day they call my office and sign up for my firm to investigate the claim.
I have been practicing law for over 25 years and specialize in Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury and Birth Trauma. I am a peer confirmed SUPERLAWYER since 2010 and have been selected to the exclusive Multimillion Dollar Verdict Forum. Membership is limited to trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skill, experience and advocacy. My qualifications warranted distinction as a Life Member.
To whom much is given, much is required. I am an altruistic attorney that enjoys giving back to the community and society in general. I participate in the Metro-Detroit Community by speaking at Detroit Public School Career Days and serving on community, school and foundation boards to provide skilled leadership, creativity and resources. I, for example, serve on the BOD for Urban Solutions, Inc., a Detroit non-profit corporation that provides multiple scholarships to inner-city youths annually. I have served as the Co-President of the Brother Rice High School Dad’s Club and have served on the Dad’s Club Board of Directors for three years. I am also active in multiple State Bar organizations and boards that sponsor community projects like Bicycle Helmet Day through the Michigan Association for Justice; we’ve given thousands of helmets to children for safe cycling in Michigan.
I reached abroad to the Country of Uganda, in Africa, with my family by donating hundreds of books and supplies to a farming tribe. I also donated to a childcare organization, Opening Doors, that teaches life skills to children inflicted with child birth defects and disabilities.
The Litigation Counsel of America is the trial lawyer honorary society, composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. I have beem selected to become a Fellow; Fellowship in the LCA is highly selective and by invitation only. Fellows are selected based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation including trial and superior ethical reputation. In addition this recent 2017 honor to join the FCA, I am a Past President of the Wolverine Bar Association, the oldest and largest minority bar association in Michigan; named The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 for 2012 through 2017; Named a Michigan Leadiing Lawyer since 2014 and have been selected by the Michigan Chronicle to their esteemed list of MEN OF EXCELLENCE 2017 for outstanding work in my profession and exemplary service in the community. I was also recently selected by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys as a “10 BEST ATTORNEYS-Michigan”, 2017, in Client Satisfaction.
I serve on the BOD for Michigan Association for Justice, the Judicial Qualifications committee for the WBA and the Minority Caucaus for the American Association for Justice. Named one of DBusiness magazine’s 2016 Top Lawyers. Please feel free to Visit my website to learn more at .
