Firm Summary
Michael has over 29 years of litigation experience in a variety of legal areas. Prior to opening this firm, he was the Chief District Court Prosecutor in the Cape and Island’s District Attorney’s Office and was honored to be named the 1997 Prosecutor of the Year by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. As a prosecutor, Michael worked with victims of crimes on a daily basis and tried over 100 trials to verdict during his 7 year career. He then began to build his experience with civil litigation when he was hired as a litigator for the five campus University of Massachusetts system. At UMass, Michael litigated and negotiated numerous civil rights and employment actions on both the trial and appellate levels, including arguing at the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts.
In 2006, Michael decided to combine all of his trial and client advocacy experience and opened a private practice that was devoted to representing individuals in need of personal representation. That year he filed his first civil lawsuit for a Fall River maintenance engineer who was diagnosed with mesothelioma. After one week of trial, this case was settled for over $12 million for his client and his surviving family.
Since filing his first mesothelioma case, Michael has represented over 100 victims of asbestos exposure, in Massachusetts and throughout the greater New England area. His clients have been exposed to asbestos in many different ways, including as carpenters, electricians, Navy workers, shipyard workers, roofers, auto mechanics, foundry workers and insulators. His clients have lived all over the United States and were exposed in many locations throughout the country.
In addition to asbestos cases, Michael and his firm also represent victims of other catastrophic accidents and injuries. He applies the same type of attention to detail and personal compassion to these cases as he does his asbestos victims.
