The Law Office of Robert D. Massey and Associates was founded in 1993 and has been in its current location at 211 West Madison since 2007. Since 1983, Mr. Massey has been trying cases mostly in the southern Middle Tennessee area in both state and federal courts. From 1987 to 1992, he served as the public defender for the 22nd Judicial District.
Attorney Robert W. Laxson has been with the Law Office of Robert D. Massey and Associates since 2020 working as a legal assistant while attending law school. He graduated from the Nashville School of Law in May 2022. He passed the bar exam and was sworn in to practice law in October 2022 and now serves as an Associate of Robert D. Massey and Associates Law Firm. He has appeared in all courts of the 22nd Judicial District and argued in the Court of Appeals.
Mr. Massey is active in both professional and civic affairs giving service with honesty and integrity and having served as an officer and board member of various civic and charitable organizations, including the Exchange Club and the Middle Tennessee Council for the Boy Scouts where he serves on the board of directors and from which he has received the Silver Beaver Award.
Mr. Massey has also been recognized by his peers throughout Tennessee for his work to advance the rights of criminal defendants — he has received the Robert W. Ritchie Award on two occasions (1992 and 1993).
He remains extremely active as a life member in both the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (TACDL) and the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA). He has served on the board of directors for TACDL on three occasions for a total of nine years and is a past president of TACDL, having served in that capacity from 1993 to 1994. He also served on the board of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association from 2000 to 2005.
